Case Study: Cooling Tower InstituteThe Challenge With the increasing number of equations and the cost of creating the large book annually the situation was quickly becoming untenable. The Solution The solution was an MFC based Windows application that implemented the various CTI equations. A web solution was considered by since the engineers typically use notebook computers in a remote offline setting the Windows application was a better choice. The Windows application uses a very rich graphing control to produce all the graphs within the Bluebook as well as provided interactive clicking on the graph for more accurate interpolation. In addition, raw values can be input to give exact answers removing the need for interpolation. The MFC Windows application uses tabs to present the various equations. This has allowed functionality to be extended by simply adding new tabs. The Benefits With the vastly reduced cost of distributed software compared to a printed book, CTI has been able to issue updates more frequently. |
